A city probe has resulted in one person being arrested for allegedly selling 351 counterfeit monthly Edmonton Transit passes.

Edmonton Transit, Edmonton Police and the city's corporate security department launched an investigation in February after security staff from a corporation alerted them about an individual selling passes at prices lower than face value.

The fake passes amounted to about $29,000 in lost revenue for Edmonton Transit.

Investigators are continuing their probe as they believe sales were not isolated to one individual.

City auditor David Wiun said in a news release that Edmonton Transit is implementing new security recommendations.

The new measures will not be publicized in order to prevent counterfeiters from adopting them.
