Indie filmmaker Kevin Smith is taking a detour around the Hollywood marketing machine for his new movie Red State.

The director of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II is taking his new film Red State on the road, touring and talking directly to fans.

With the help of the internet, and his one million plus Twitter followers, he is packing public halls and cinemas with audiences keen to take in the horror film.

Smith talked to CBC's Arisa Cox as he toured Canada with Red State, just ahead of his appearance Tuesday in Edmonton.
