Officials with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety are investigating a workplace death near Edson, Alta., on Saturday.

OHS spokesperson Janice Schroeder said a man in his 50's was working on a site north of Highway 16 when he was killed.

Schroeder said the man was riding an ATV at the time of his death, and it's believed high winds knocked a tree onto him. She said it is not clear if the man died later in hospital or at the scene.

She said the nature of the man's job is not known but said he worked for Millennium Geomatics Ltd., a Calgary-based company that does mapping and surveying primarily for the petroleum industry. OHS investigators were headed to the scene Sunday morning.
