Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann says he'll stay on as interim leader of the party until it chooses his replacement later this year.

Swann said he made the decision based on a request by the Liberal Party Board of Directors.

A new leader will be named at a leadership announcement in Edmonton on Sept. 10.

Swann announced more than three months ago that he would be stepping down and said at that time that he'd go at the end of the spring sitting of the legislature.

Swann will still seek re-election as the legislature member for Calgary-Mountain View.
