A three-year investigation has resulted in 97 charges against an RV salesman in Millet, Alta. (CBC)An Edmonton-area RV salesman is facing 97 fraud and theft charges after a three-year investigation.
The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council charged Arnold Donszelmann of Leisure RV Rentals Ltd. in Millet, Alta. with 49 counts of fraud and 48 counts of theft.
The charges involve 28 victims and potentially $3 million dollars in losses for consumers, said AMVIC Executive Director Bob Hamilton.
Donzelmann appeared in Edmonton provincial court Friday.
A lawyer representing some of the alleged victims in a lawsuit said Donszelmann sold motor homes to people as an investment and agreed to lease out the vehicles on their behalf.
But Donszelmann did not have clear ownership of the vehicles, said Barry King.
The purchasers were paid monthly on their investment, but when the cheques stopped arriving, they called police, said King.
That’s when they discovered the RVs did not exist, King said.
The council stripped Donszelmann of his licence to sell RVs in November 2007.
