(Min Dhariwal/CBC News)Edmonton's first suspected case of human trafficking was concluded Wednesday after three people pleaded guilty to one charge each of keeping a common bawdy house.
Mei Fang Chen, Xiu Zheng Chen, and Qui Wang, originally faced charges of human trafficking and living off the avails of prostitution. Those charges were dropped in exchange for guilty pleas on the bawdy house charges.
They were in pre-trial custody ranging from two and a half months to three and a half months.
All three were put on probation for two years.
The three were charged in September 2009 after police removed three women from Sachi Professional Massage and Spa in west Edmonton.
The women, who ranged in age from 21 to 41, came to Canada from Fiji and China. Police said they were forced to live in the massage parlour and take calls around the clock.
