Events Edmonton, the organization best known for running "A Taste of Edmonton" each summer, is behind the festival.
The $1.2 million festival is to run from Dec. 31 to Feb. 20, 2012. Each pavilion would feature different types of activities: programming for children, a snow bar, an observation tower and a food area known as "A Taste of Winter."
The pavilions, which could rise as high as 70 feet in the air, would be made of aluminum scaffold covered in white shrink wrap.
Events Edmonton is asking the city to provide $150,000 in cash and $65,000 in civic services to help fund the event. The remaining costs would be covered by food sales, sponsorships and raffles .
Edmonton city council will discuss the funding request at the Feb. 9th executive committee meeting.
