For the third time in less than a week, a roof has collapsed in the Edmonton area because of heavy snow.

Emergency personnel were called to The Brick furniture store in Leduc at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday following a partial roof collapse believed to be caused by excessive snow. There were no injuries.

Leduc Fire Services officials urged all owners of flat-topped roofs in the region, particularly commercial buildings with heating, air-conditioning and ventilation systems (HVAC), to inspect their roofs for any signs of duress.

(CBC)On Tuesday, about 150 people escaped injury when the snow-covered roof of a seniors' centre collapsed in north Edmonton. Thirty were members of a seniors' choir that was rehearsing in the auditorium of the Northgate Lions Senior Citizens Recreational Centre. The northeast wall of the structure also crumbled in the roof collapse.

A relatively large amount of snow has accumulated in the area during the month of January. Edmonton city officials are examining all city buildings with large, flat roofs to ensure there is no danger of another collapse.

On Friday, a man and his five-year-old son were able to escape when the snow-covered roof of an automotive shop in Spruce Grove caved in.
