A 12-year-old boy from the Edmonton area, believed to have been abducted by his mother, was found Friday evening in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

The boy and his 15-year-old sister were found just before 7 p.m. MT. He had been last seen at 3:45 p.m. Thursday getting into a vehicle in front of his home in Sherwood Park, east of Edmonton.

The boy's mother was arrested at the scene without incident, RCMP said. She was to be returned to Alberta to appear in Sherwood Park provincial court.

Both of her children were said to be in good condition.

Const. Wally Henry said earlier that police were concerned about the youngsters. "We have concerns for their safety and as well for the ability for their mother to care for them," he said.

The boy's father reported him missing to the Strathcona County RCMP detachment at 5:10 p.m. Thursday. Police didn't issue an Amber Alert until Friday afternoon.

"The information that we needed to obtain to have that criteria met was obtained just prior to the Amber Alert being issued," Henry said.
