Fatal shooting victim was on statutory release

Police believe this hat belonged to the man responsible for killing Scott Brown. (Edmonton Police Service)The victim of Thursday's shooting in north Edmonton was out on statutory release for uttering threats and carrying a concealed weapon.
Scott Shane Brown, 20, died from his injuries about an hour after being taken to hospital.
According to the National Parole Board, the conditions of Brown's statutory release included that he not have any direct or indirect contact with the drug subculture, gangs or the criminal element.
Police were called to 161st Avenue and 100th Street around 3:40 p.m. Thursday on a report gunshots had been heard in the area.
Witnesses said a man was seen clutching his arm and jumping in a tow truck, which drove away from the area. Brown was found a few blocks away at 158th Avenue and 98th Street.

(RCMP)"Based on the information that we're getting from our investigators ... it does not appear at this time to be just a random act," said police spokeswoman Lisa Sobchyshyn.
Police released more details Friday about the suspect in the shooting.
Police said they are looking for a Caucasian or tanned stocky man in his 20s who was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black baseball cap.
He fled in a southwest direction from where Brown was injured. He left both his ball cap and running shoes behind, police believe.
An autopsy was scheduled to take place Friday afternoon.
