Alberta Health Services and Veterans Affairs Canada officially opened Edmonton's Operational Stress Injury Clinic Wednesday.
The outpatient clinic at Northgate Health Centre treats veterans, Canadian Forces members and certain RCMP officers and their families affected by anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and addictions.
It has been running since spring.
“Our government recognizes the stresses associated with military operations and we are committed to strengthening the support offered to those affected by operational stress injuries,” MP Laurie Hawn, parliamentary secretary to the minister of natural defence said in a statement.
The clinic, which is funded by Veterans Affairs Canada and run by Alberta Health has an operating budget of approximately $2.4 million for 2010-11.
There are 10 similiar clinics around the country, including ones in Calgary, Ottawa and Vancouver.
