No one was injured when 43 cars went off the rails in Alberta early Wednesday morning.

The cars went off the track around 3:20 a.m. MT at the CN Scotford Yard outside Fort Saskatchewan, about 30 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.

The derailment occurred when a slow moving train collided with parked railway cars during a switching operation.

The train was carrying seven types of hazardous material, including diesel and liquefied petroleum gas but nothing leaked, Strathcona County officials said Wednesday afternoon.

"At present there is no known hazard to the public either on or off-site, and no reason to believe that will change during cleanup," Deputy Chief Ken Jones of Strathcona County Emergency Services said in a news release.

Initial estimates suggested 37 cars derailed but that figure was revised Wednesday afternoon.

A CN investigation is now underway.
