Seven community organizations in Edmonton are organizing a collective fundraising effort to aid millions of people killed or displaced by the floods in Pakistan.
An estimated 1,500 people have died in the disaster and a reported 13 million have been affected.
Sohail Quadri, director of the Human Development Foundation in Edmonton, said he can't believe all the recent misfortunes of the Pakistani people.
"So many things are brought upon Pakistan and they just keep taking it and keep moving on," he told CBC News. "You know there is the war against terrorism … and then the airplane incident, where 150 people died, and then you got this flooding. You know sometimes you wonder what's happening."
Quadri said the Edmonton groups will sponsor a banquet next Friday.
The Pakistan Canada Association in Calgary hosted a fundraising gathering at the Prairie Winds Park on Friday.
