Edmonton International Fringe Festival discount passes sold out in record time this year.

The frequent fringer and double fringe passes sold in less than 24 hours, the first time that has happened at the biggest Canadian fringe theatre festival.

Single tickets for shows are still available, though they are also selling well.

Tickets are available at the box office in the lobby of the TransAlta Arts Barns on 84th Avenue, or online.

The fringe festival runs from Aug. 12 to 22, kicking off with the performers' parade at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12.

The Edmonton fringe is the first in North America, starting in 1982.

Fringe theatre festivals are held every year in 14 communities across Canada. They are unjuried, uncensored festivals that feature low ticket prices for live theatre. Performers rent theatre space that is assigned either on a first-come, first-served basis or using a lottery system.
