(CBC) The search for missing Alberta couple Lyle and Marie Ann McCann returned on Wednesday to a wooded area east of Edson, Alta.
About 20 searchers spent the day combing through the woods near the Nojack campground, on Highway 16 between Edson and Edmonton.
The area was first searched on July 17, CBC News has learned.
RCMP officers also spent Wednesday searching a home in nearby MacKay, where Travis Vader was apprehended early Monday on outstanding warrants unrelated to the disappearance of the McCanns.
Officers could be seen carrying boxes out of the home.
Officers also searched a home in MacKay, Alta., where Travis Vader was apprehended early Monday on outstanding warrants unrelated to the disappearance of the McCanns. (CBC) Vader, who has a criminal history dating back to 1995, when he was convicted of stealing a vehicle, has been named a person of interest in the McCann case. He remains in custody.
RCMP have released no new details on their latest search for the missing couple but said their search of the two areas wrapped up Wednesday.
The McCanns — Lyle, 78, and Marie Ann, 77 — were last seen getting gas on July 3, shortly after they left their St. Albert home on their way to the Vancouver area.
Two days later the couple's motorhome was found burned to a shell at a campground near Edson, but the missing-persons investigation didn't begin until July 10, when their daughter reported them missing after they didn't meet her as planned at the airport in Abbotsford, B.C.
Six days after that the McCanns' SUV, a Hyundai Tucson they had been towing behind the motorhome, was found west of Edmonton.
