Rodney King shows a BlackBerry photo of his injured daughter. (CBC)A three-year-old girl was badly injured when a Rottweiler bit her in the face at a baseball diamond in Grande Prairie, Alta., on Monday night.
Two Rottweilers were tied up to bleachers at the South Bear Creek baseball diamonds while the owner was watching a game.
"A small child had basically broken away from supervision and ended coming up behind these two dogs," said Gord McMahon, a peace officer with the City of Grande Prairie.
When the child fell on top of the larger dog, it turned and bit her, McMahon said.
The girl was taken to hospital in Grande Prairie and then airlifted to a hospital in Edmonton.
She received 150 stitches to her face, but her father, Rodney King, said she is doing much better.
"Her face stitched up well," King said. "She's full of energy and wants to get up and do stuff."
His wife accompanied their daughter on the airlift to Edmonton. King drove the 560 kilometres.
"It was a long trip from Grande Prairie to here," he said. "Thinking about what was going to happen and what kind of stuff was going to go on."
Both dogs were quarantined at the SPCA as a precaution after being seized by Grande Prairie animal control officers. The dogs will be watched for signs of rabies.
