Alberta's newest multimillionaire Lotto winner says he now has the money to go back to school to become a journeyman welder.

Cameron Blair from Beaumont, just south of Edmonton, won $41.7 million in the April 23 Lotto Max jackpot.

Cameron Blair plans to share his winnings with his friends and family. (CBC)The 32-year-old bought the ticket shortly after he was laid off from his welding job.

He came forward Wednesday as Alberta's biggest single lottery winner in history.

Blair said he bought the lotto ticket to lift up his spirits after losing his job.

"[I thought], I'm going to buy a ticket just to perk up my blues, to pick me up, to get me through," he said.

"[Then] you wake up that Saturday morning, and you hear your parents screaming in the kitchen, and you're like, 'No, [it] can't be it'."

Along with going back to school to get his journeyman certificate, Blair plans on giving some of his winnings to his parents so they can retire.

"You think about what would you do if you won the lottery ... you think [about] the trips, the cars," Blair said.

"After winning it, to be honest with you, that's not how I'm going to live it. I've got friends and family. I want to share this happiness with them."
