Gingur Sky Bar and Grill is closing for good after the owners of the northwest Edmonton nightclub turned in their business licence on Wednesday.

“In the interests of community safety we’re glad that an unsafe place is now closed for good,” acting Sgt. Nicole Chapdelaine, co-ordinator of the city's Public Safety Compliance Team, said in a news release on Thursday.

Four people were sent to hospital early Sunday after a gunman fired into the club from the parking lot, second shooting at the club in a month. There have been ten violent incidents and eight shootings at the bar since 2008. In 2006, a person was killed in a shooting at the bar.

On Monday, the city temporarily suspended Gingur Sky's business licence, which shut down the club for 14 days. Officials also said they would ask the city's chief licensing officer to take it away for good.

Now that the owners have voluntarily turned in the licence, Chapdelaine's team won't proceed.

"From a public safety perspective, the owners voluntarily closing the club was the best possible outcome," police Supt. Neil Dubord said in the news release.

No one has been arrested or charged in Sunday's incident.
