Connor and Jayden McConnell are shown here on a Facebook memorial site. (Facebook)A woman who lives near a house that is the focus of a suspicious-death investigation in an Edmonton-area community told CBC News she saw the bodies of two young boys on the bathroom floor.
The neighbour, who would not give her name, said the man who lived in the house in Millet, Alta., with his wife and two children, showed up at her door, hysterical and asking for help, and took her into the house before police arrived.
Police have not released the ages, gender or names of the deceased. Autopsies were scheduled to take place in Edmonton on Tuesday afternoon.
CBC News has learned from neighbours and court documents that the couple's names are Allyson and Curtis McConnell. The boys were identified as Connor, 2½ years old, and Jayden, who was 10 months old.
Police were called to this house in Millet, Alta., on Monday afternoon after a family member discovered the bodies of two children inside. (CBC)The neighbour said the couple had been going through a difficult divorce. Allyson McConnell wanted to take the boys back to her home in Australia but the request was turned down by a judge, the neighbour said.
Another neighbour, Michelle Schmidt, placed a teddy bear in the snow in front of the house.
"My heart goes out to the family and I think the whole town is just in shock right now," she said.
Police confirmed a car found abandoned in south Edmonton late Monday afternoon is connected to the house in Millet but they would not say how.
Millet is a town of about 2,100 about 40 kilometres south of Edmonton.
