Sgt. George Miok and Cpl. Zachery McCormack were killed Dec. 30 when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
Also killed in the blast were Sgt. Kirk Taylor, 28, of Yarmouth, N.S., Pte. Garrett William Chidley, 21, of Langley, B.C., and Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang, 34.
The bodies of Miok, 28, and McCormack, 21, were brought home yesterday, escorted by police cars to funeral homes in Sherwood Park from the Edmonton International Airport.
Jerard Hyland said his friend Miok's death made the war in Afghanistan more real to him.
"It didn't seem as real before," he said. "Now it's really touched home."
The soldiers will be remembered at separate funerals in Sherwood Park.
