A 10-week-old baby girl from Camrose, Alta., is in critical condition in Edmonton after being the victim of what police allege was an assault by her father.
The man, 23, has been charged with aggravated assault. He is not being named to protect the identity of the child.
Medical staff at an Edmonton hospital alerted police Tuesday after they treated the child for her injuries.
When police went to the baby's Camrose house to speak to the father, they allegedly found marijuana and ecstasy pills. The baby's mother wasn't in the house at the time.
The man remains in custody and will appear in Camrose provincial court in early December. He also faces two drug-related charges.
