The Alberta government is giving Lamont, Sturgeon and Strathcona Counties $8 million to cover the some of the costs of fighting wildfires that hit the region in May.
The wildfires prompted all three counties to declare local states of emergency and a number of families were asked to leave their homes.
The money announced Wednesday will help counties with the cost of firefighting, emergency operations and reclamation efforts, the province's news release said.
Lamont and Strathcona counties and the city of Edmonton are getting an additional $4.5 million from the province to pay for the costs of dealing with a severe windstorm that hit the region on July 18.
Winds reached speeds of more than 100 km/h, toppling trees and causing power outages in the city.
