A 19-year-old Edmonton man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years for killing a 23-year-old man in 2007.
Lee Michael Casavant was 17 when he was charged in the fatal shooting of Brandon Dierich, an Edmonton drug dealer.
Casavant pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in 2008. His identity was previously protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, but he can now be identified, after the judge ruled he would be sentenced as an adult.
The court heard Casavant was paid $7,000 to shoot Dierich. Casavant lured Dierich to a fake drug buy in the Hazeldean neighbourhood.
Dierich was sitting in his parked car when Casavant rode up on his BMX bike and shot him twice in the head.
