Authorities have closed part of provincial park on the Alberta-Montana border after grizzly bear sightings.

Conservation officers have spotted several grizzly bears feeding in Police Outpost Provincial Park near Cardston.

"The bears are drawn to the site by the availability of food, such as berries. It is expected the grizzly bears will use this part of the park until they hibernate for the winter," parks officials said in a news release.

A campground in the northeast section of the park will remain open until Oct. 31.

"Visitors will continue to have access to Police Lake and lakeshore trails and are encouraged to travel with bear spray and know how to properly use it. Campers need to take appropriate steps to properly store, prepare and dispose of food."

Conservation officers patrolling the area and signs are up warning what to do in the event of a grizzly bear encounter.
