Nick Bulger was scheduled for Monday afternoon at St. Joseph's Basilica in downtown Edmonton.

His family has requested a private ceremony for the member of the 3rd Battalion, Prince Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

Bulger was killed in Afghanistan on July 3 while driving in a convoy that included Canadian commander Brigadier-General Jonathan Vance. Five other soldiers were injured as the vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb.

Since 2002, 124 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat have died in Afghanistan.
