Alberta has two new confirmed cases of swine flu, both mild and both women from Calgary, one of whom had recently travelled to Tennessee, the province's chief medical officer of health announced Friday.

"She hadn't travelled to Mexico, but similarly presented with mild symptoms, and is recovering uneventfully at home," Dr. André Corriveau said.

The other woman had been in Mexico and is also recovering at home.

While this is the first confirmed Alberta case involving someone who has not travelled to Mexico, it is not the first in Canada. Both B.C. and Nova Scotia have had cases that were contracted in the community, Corriveau said.

The public needs to remain calm about swine flu, Corriveau said. Some employers are sending workers who've recently travelled to Mexico to get tested even if they have no flu symptoms.

"We're just appealing to people to be reasonable, not to clog our health-care system unnecessarily," he said.

Alberta now has eight confirmed cases of swine flu. The national total sits at 55, with new cases announced in B.C., Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec and New Brunswick.
