An education lobby group is pushing the Alberta government to make licence plates mandatory on the front of all vehicles.
Michele Mulder, head of the Alberta Home and School Councils' Association, says bus drivers are having a hard time catching oncoming drivers who speed by them when they're dropping kids off.
"Even though they are looking in the rear-view mirror, often times the car is going so fast they just can't read the plate," she said.
"All they can note is the colour and the make of the vehicle, basically, and the time of the incident. They can't take a licence plate and then notify the RCMP or the local police in order to call that person to task."
The Alberta School Boards Association is also calling for front licence plates.
Both groups plan to lobby the education minister as well as the transportation minister until they get results.
Drivers are only required to have rear licence plates on their vehicles in Alberta.
