Four teenagers must stand trial in connection with the beating death of an Edmonton man on a bus last March, a judge ruled Friday.
In a preliminary hearing, the judge said the four accused — who were all under 18 at the time of the death — will all face on manslaughter charges.
Stefan William Conley, 35, was allegedly swarmed and beaten to death on an Edmonton Transit bus.
The judge said Friday that Conley was obviously the physical aggressor on the bus that night, but it will be up to a jury to decide whether the teens used too much force when they punched Conley after he attacked one of them.
Conley, who had a blood alcohol limit that was twice the legal limit, died as the result of a rare head injury sustained during the attack, court heard.
The teens will be back in court on March 16.
In the meantime, their bail conditions have been relaxed.
They now have a curfew of midnight instead of 9 p.m. and can start riding public transit again, something they weren't allowed to do under the original bail conditions.
