EPCOR reported widespread power outages due to a thunderstorm that hit south Edmonton Tuesday afternoon.
There were reports of several traffic lights out in the city including 75th Street and Roper Road and 23rd Avenue and 34th Street.
A lightning strike lit a small fire at one office building.
Heavy rain also caused problems for motorists. Richard McPhee got stuck in a puddle more than a metre deep at 92nd Avenue and 49th Street.
"There was cars stuck everywhere, stalled out," he said. "I decided to cut through the parking lot and go over the grass and somebody stopped in front of me. The front of my car got buried, sucked in water to my engine and stalled."
The Edmonton area was put under a severe thunderstorm warning late Tuesday afternoon which was later lifted.
