Two men are still at large after a violent break-and-enter that police say put an entire neighbourhood at risk.

Spruce Grove RCMP say three masked people, armed with a handgun and a sawed-off rifle, tried to break into a house on Spruce Grouse Crescent around 4 p.m. MT on Monday.

People inside the house fought back and forced the group outside, where the fight continued. A neighbour who tried to intervene was threatened with a firearm.

Brittany Shideler, who lives nearby, says the group tried to flee, but other neighbours managed to hold two of them until police arrived.

Police arrested a man and a woman, but the third man, along with the group's driver, are still on the loose.
