Son charged with murder after man killed with hammer
A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder after his father was struck with a hammer in their northeast Edmonton home.
Aaron Kohler is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon in the death of William MacLean, 71.
Police were alerted to MacLean’s death when a man approached a patrol officer at 100th Street and Jasper Avenue around 10:45 Tuesday night.
Officers went to the house where they found MacLean’s body in the cellar. An autopsy found that he died of blunt force trauma to his head.
A mental exam was requested during Kohler’s first appearance in court on Wednesday. He will return to court on Tuesday to enter a plea.
