RCMP are mailing out distracted driving tickets to an "alarming" number of people taking pictures of an accident scene on the QE II near Olds, Alta., last night.

Police were investigating a single-car rollover at the Highway 27 overpass at around 6 p.m. when they noticed passing drivers pulling out cell phones and taking photos.

"They're not concentrating on the road,"  said Cpl. Al Nicholson. "They're looking at the collision scene trying to take a picture the person in front they stop to take a better picture and then you get a rear-end collision."

Nicholson said that increased the danger to police and other emergency staff on scene.

Officers took down several license plate numbers at the scene and will be mailing out $172 tickets for distracted driving.

Firefighters also snapped photos of the offending drivers and will pass that information on to police, Nicholson said.

The driver of the car in the rollover was treated at hospital for minor injuries and released.
