Social agency's New Year's message stresses don't drink while pregnant
Catholic Social Services promotes awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
Drinking during pregnancy can lead to fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and brain damage.
To get that message across, Catholic Social Services on Tuesday held its New Year's Eve Mocktail demonstration, an event that included interviews with families who face FASD every day and a demonstration of mocktail recipes.
At this festive time of year, it's easy for pregnant women or women trying to conceive to find themselves in social situations where alcohol is being served, the social agency says. It's encouraging not just women, but also their partners, to avoid alcohol if there is any chance of pregnancy.
