A snowfall warning has been issued for the city of Edmonton this weekend, with between 10 and 20 centimetres expected to fall by Sunday night.

The forecast calls for rain this afternoon that will turn to snow Saturday evening and will likely continue through the weekend.

The cause of the worsening weather is a low pressure system moving east from B.C.’s south coast. The snow is expected to taper off Sunday evening as the low moves into Saskatchewan.

Temperatures are also going to dip to below normal daytime highs for the week.

RCMP are reporting slippery conditions and reduced visibility on Highway 2 between Red Deer and Didsbury. They are advising drivers to avoid unnecessary travel and to use headlights when out on the road.
