Sick of winter yet? Then it's best to just not look outside today.

Wet, sticky snow is piling up in Edmonton and the surrounding area, and snowfall warnings are in effect for some parts of central Alberta.

Environment Canada says around 10 to 15 centimetres of snow can be expected today in the following communities north and west of Edmonton:

  • Spruce Grove
  • Morinville
  • Mayerthorpe
  • Evansburg
  • Westlock
  • Barrhead
  • Athabasca

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Some areas north of Edmonton have already experienced 10 centimetres of snow overnight and can expect another five to 10 centimetres throughout the day, according to Environment Canada.

Motorists are being urged to use caution on city streets and highways, as visibility can suddenly be reduced in heavy snow.

The forecast for Edmonton on Sunday is a high of 2 C with a low of 0 C. Around 4 centimetres of snow is expected to fall. Wind is blowing from the east at 20 km/h.
