Shots fired during police pursuit in northern Alberta
Alberta Serious Incident Response Team called in to investigate
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after shots were fired during a police pursuit in Boyle, Alta.
Police have released few details about the incident, but RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb said the incident started in Boyle on Friday afternoon and moved along Highway 663 to North Buck Lake.
"There was a pursuit involved and there was a confrontation. At one point there were some shots fired," Webb said, but he would not specify whether police or the suspects fired the shots.
He said two people were taken into custody, and ASIRT has now taken over the investigation.
Police say one of the suspects was shot and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No police officers were injured.
ASIRT is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in death or serious injury in Alberta.
North Buck Lake is northeast of Boyle, about 150 kilometres north of Edmonton.
