The Edmonton Catholic School District is hoping to make a counter offer to 916 support staff workers next week.

The union representing the workers proposed a defined wage hike for the second year of a two-year contract — the main sticking point in negotiations — but the district says it can't afford it.

The two sides meet again Monday.

In the meantime, as Brandy Yanchyk reports, workers say parents volunteering at the schools may be prolonging the strike.
