Saskatchewan Drive could be closed for six weeks this spring if council approves $1.7 million to stabilize a deteriorating slope which runs along the side of the road.
The road closure would allow crews to construct a retaining wall from 101st Street to 90th Avenue.
The city would like to have the work completed before the start of construction of the new Walterdale Bridge this year.
According to a city report, problems with the slope were first discovered in early 2012.
Heavy rains last summer made the situation worse for both the road and a wooden pedestrian walkway.
Council will make a final decision on the project funding next week.
