Rural Alberta robbery spree suspects arrested
Two men have been arrested and charges are pending after what Strathcona County RCMP describe as a robbery spree in rural Alberta.
Just before midnight on Thursday, RCMP in Tofield were called to an armed robbery at the Country Boyz Tempo Gas Station in the community 68 kilometres east of Edmonton, a release says.
The robbers left the gas station in a pickup truck, heading towards Edmonton on Wye Road, when Strathcona RCMP began a chase, with speeds reaching 160 km/hr, police say.
The ground pursuit was ended a short time later as RCMP Air Services from Edmonton responded and monitored the vehicles' location from the air, the release says.
The vehicle was followed to a rural subdivision southeast of Sherwood Park, where Strathcona County RCMP, with police dogs, caught up with the vehicle.
Two men in the truck who were in possession of a large quantity of cash were arrested.
RCMP believe the two males are responsible for an armed robbery spree that began in Perryvale and Redwater, 52 kilometres north of Edmonton, on July 13, and continued over several days, ending with the robbery in Tofield on Thursday night.
Charges of armed robbery, possession of stolen property, flight from police and dangerous driving are expected to be laid, police said.
