The Rossdale Regeneration Group is urging candidates to breathe new life into Edmonton's old power plant.

Members guided Ward 6 candidates on a walking tour of the facility yesterday hoping whoever ends up on council will champion the cause, says spokesperson Michael Phair.

"Obviously we would like the mayor as well and all members of council, but it's always valuable to have someone who has some understanding, represents the area and can say, 'Here's what i know about it,' and lead that discussion," Phair said.

The group envisions restaurants, a gallery and public spaces for the abandoned industrial building.

It's hoping for at least $3 million in the 2014 budget to repair the roof and preserve the building.

The Rossdale Power Plant is a provincially-designated historical building. EPCOR still owns it, but is expected to hand over the property to the city.
