Roads, airport key issues in Ward 11
Roads, the City Centre Airport and revitalization of older neighbourhoods were hot topics at Ward 11's all-candidates forum in southeast Edmonton Tuesday night.
About a hundred people packed the King Edward Park Hall to hear five of the six candidates discuss key ward issues.
Along with Ward 3, Ward 11 is without an incumbent after former councillor Dave Thiele announced earlier this year that he is retiring, while fellow councillor Amarjeet Sohi is running this time in Ward 12.
June Elgert who lives the ward said this race is the one to watch.
"I just think it's exciting to see what's going to happen in this ward...who's going to get it," she said.
"I'm excited about that, and I don't get excited about politics...ever."
This is candidate Chinwe Okelu's fourth run at council. Okelu was just 254 votes short of beating Sohi in 2007.
Former Edmonton Sun columnist Kerry Diotte is also on the ballot, as is Shane Bergdahl, who is being backed by Thiele.
Roberto Maglalang,Vishal Luthra and Brent Schaffrick are also vying for the seat.
Edmonton voters head to the polls Oct. 18.
