Capt. Simon Mailloux, who lost his leg to an IED in Afghanistan in 2007, became the first Canadian military amputee to return to active service.

After the attack, which killed two colleagues, he wanted to honour their commitment and complete the mission.

"Every time I make a choice in my life, I have to deserve what they gave me," Mailloux said."I can't cut corners."

He is in Edmonton to deliver an address at the Military & Veteran Health Research Forum being held in Edmonton this week.

Mailloux spoke with Edmonton AM's Mark Connolly this morning.
