Red Deer RCMP arrest man for robbery followed by hit-and-run
One woman was taken to hospital after being struck by the male suspect driving a stolen vehicle
Red Deer RCMP spent more than an hour chasing down a man in connection to a series of crimes Monday.
Police say the spree started around 11:30 a.m., when a man pulled a knife and robbed the Gaetz Avenue Liquor Store. He then stole a nearby red Honda Acura and drove away.
Shortly after, the man struck a vehicle at 47th Avenue and 30th Street in front of Sunnybrook Farm, trapping the female driver inside.
While fire crews and EMS extricated the woman from her vehicle, the suspect fled the stolen car on foot and was spotted running south into the Bower neighbourhood.
With the help of several witnesses, police were able to track the man to the Bower Place Shopping Centre.
The suspect attempted to enter several homes nearby before police located him in a backyard. He then pulled out a knife, threatened police and resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.
The woman who was trapped in her vehicle was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital with unconfirmed injuries. No RCMP officers were injured while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
Police are investigating reports that the suspect struck another vehicle during the crime spree.
