Visitors at the Edmonton Motorshow this weekend said they have low consumer confidence after several mass recalls in the past few months.

Since February, General Motors has recalled over two million cars for faulty ignition switches and power steering issues.

On Wednesday, Toyota issued five recalls for six million vehicles worldwide.

While the high number of recalls may look scary, GM representative George Saratlic said they are actually a good thing.

“When a company does do a recall or a safety fix of some sorts, it's in the best interest of our customers. It's about making that car safer.”

Saratlic said the best thing a prospective buyer can do to avoid recall problems is do their research in advance.
