RCMP investigating suspicious death northeast of Edmonton
Human remains were found in a burned out BMW in Lamont County on Sunday
Fort Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating after human remains were found in a burned out BMW over the weekend.
Police were called to a rural location in Lamont County around 5 p.m. Sunday following reports of a burned vehicle on Township Road 572 between Range Road 201 and 202. When they arrived, they found human remains inside.
The scene was immediately secured and the RCMP's Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Section were called in from Edmonton to help investigate.
Police are calling the death suspicious and are in the process of determining the identity of the victim. They could not provide more information about the victim's gender, or how long the victim had been dead.
RCMP said the vehicle, a white 2013 BMW 328i coupe, was last seen Jan. 4 before being found burned over the weekend. Police are now asking for the public's help in determining where the vehicle was travelling in the Fort Saskatchewan and Bruderheim areas during the week of Jan. 4.
