An autopsy has confirmed the identity of human remains found Sunday on the Enoch Cree Nation to be those of 24-year-old Gary Francis Rain.

Rain, a Stony Plain resident, went missing March 12 as he was leaving Stony Plain to walk to the reserve.

An extensive search for Rain didn't turn up anything at the time, despite a social-media campaign and the involvement of Rain's family, who RCMP say were strong advocates in the search effort.

Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP were called to the reserve early Sunday after a resident reported animals had found human remains.

Cpl.Collette Zazulak said the RCMP used dental remains to identify Rain’s body, and has informed Rain’s family.

"Our investigators did meet with the family yesterday." she said. "Always when this happens, there is a sense of relief but also some pretty profound grief. It’s a sad end to the story of him going missing."

RCMP are still investigating the cause of death, and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
