Rachel Notley to announce plans for Alberta's NDP
Brian Mason resigned as leader of the Alberta NDP at the end of April
MLA Rachel Notley is expected to make an announcement about the future of the provincial New Democrat Party Monday morning.
A lawyer by trade, Notley has been the Edmonton-StrathconaMLA since 2008. She is also the NDP’s critic for education, children’s services and environment.
Notley is the daughter of Grant Notley, the former NDP leader of 16 years who died 30 years ago in a plane crash at the age of 45.
Brian Mason resigned as leader of the Alberta NDP at the end of April, saying the party needs new blood and “a new leader to tackle the changing political landscape.”
So far, Edmonton-Calder MLA David Eggen is the only candidate who has officially entered the leadership race.
It is largely expected that Notley will announce her candidacy for the NDP leadership.
