Accused of killing young sons early last year

A Millet, Alta. woman charged with killing her two young sons is in court this week for a preliminary hearing.

Allyson McConnell, 32, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 10-month-old Jayden McConnell and two-year-old Connor McConnell.

The boys were found dead by their father, Curtis McConnell, in their Millet home, 40 kilometres south of Edmonton, on Feb. 1, 2010.

The hearing in Wetaskiwin provincial court began Monday morning and is expected to last until Thursday.

McConnell sat in the prisoner's box looking pale, with her head down taking notes. At one point she wiped away tears.

The hearing will determine whether there's enough evidence to hold a trial. The judge imposed a publication ban on all evidence introduced at the hearing.

McConnell is being held at Alberta Hospital Edmonton.
