Police look for man who touched boy in school washroom
A student says he was approached by a strange man in the washroom of Evansdale Elementary School at 93rd Street and 150th Avenue on Tuesday morning.
Police were called around 11 a.m. after the boy reported the incident to school staff.
Police say the man may have touched the boy inappropriately.
Usually school doors are locked when students are inside, but police say the Evansdale doors may have been unsecured that day.
Officials with Edmonton Public Schools are now reviewing procedures.
“We're going to do everything we can to make sure that we can prevent this happening, to the best of our ability,” said Lisa Austin, the board’s director of communications.
Austin says that other schools in the area have been notified.
One of the difficulties with the investigation is that the school doesn’t have any security cameras. Police also haven’t been able to find any witnesses.
“The biggest challenge is getting some corroborative type of evidence or another corroborating type of statement from somebody else,” said Det. Cam Hawrish from the Child Protection Section.
Police say the suspect is an older Caucasian male, about 5’4” to 5’8” tall, balding with grey hair.
