Police are investigating a shooting in the area north of downtown Edmonton that sent a man to hospital.

The man in his late to mid 20s was found with a single gunshot wound on the median of 97th Street around 6 a.m. He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and is expected to survive.

“We have some witnesses who saw two individuals running from the location after the incident took place so again we’re following up on that and we’re canvassing the neighbourhood," said acting Insp. Malcolm Allan.

Officers have blocked off the northbound lanes of 97th Street between 111th and 112th Avenues.

They say there is a blood trail from a house to the median and are awaiting the arrival of the forensics team.

Witnesses have told police they saw two men fleeing the scene.
